泡沫 スイソスイ
The wellness influencer whose contents vanish the moment you open the cap
A 20-something wellness influencer. Proudly declares "I'm packed with powerful antioxidant hydrogen!" But the moment she opens her mouth (uncaps), all the hydrogen gas escapes into the air, leaving nothing but plain water. Her claims were denied by the National Consumer Affairs Center, and the boom faded.
Boomed in Japan in the 2010s. Marketed as "hydrogen removes reactive oxygen species," but faded after physical solubility limits and lack of in-vivo mechanism were pointed out.
Key Figures
Scientific Explanation
Hydrogen (H₂) barely dissolves in water (Henry's law). Even if dissolved under pressure, it volatilizes instantly upon opening. No mechanism for selective reaction with reactive oxygen species in gastric acid environments has been confirmed. The National Consumer Affairs Center found that many products failed to maintain labeled hydrogen concentrations.
Lesson
Don't be fooled by "scientific-sounding foreign terms." Basic physics (gas solubility) is enough to see through this trick instantly.
Catchphrase
With the power of hydrogen, you can be beautiful from the inside!
Rivalries
Hydrogen (H) is the most abundant element in the universe and fuel for nuclear fusion. Utterly exasperated at being trapped in a glass of water.
Entrance
(Entering with a sparkly bottle) Everyone~! Let's detox from the inside with hydrogen water~! Full antioxidant power~!
...Huh? It escapes when you open the cap? That's just an urban legend~! (Pssh... silence)
Interactions
Sui Sowat: "Hydrogen! We're partners! Let's make humanity healthy together!"
Hydrogen: "...Trap me in a glass of water? I'm the element that shines in stellar fusion. Ever heard of Henry's law?"
Sui Sowat: "Henry? Who? Anyway, the antioxidant power..."
Hydrogen: "At standard temperature and pressure, only about 1.6mg of me dissolves in 1 liter of water. Nearly all of it volatilizes the moment you open the cap. What you're selling is just water."
Sui Sowat: "...But customers said it worked..."
Hydrogen: "That's called the placebo effect. Stop using my name to deceive people."
Exit
What I was selling wasn't "hydrogen" but "hope." When anxious, people pay 500 yen for scientific-sounding words.
Real hydrogen burns inside stars. It's not something that fits in a plastic bottle. Knowing basic physics is the ultimate detox.
