The 2000s PTA president condemning youth with a broken EEG machine
A permanently angry 2000s PTA president. Carries a broken EEG machine, blaming everything on games: "Gaming makes brain waves identical to dementia patients! This causes violent youth!" But the EEG methodology was noise-filled junk, and alpha wave decrease during gaming concentration is the same as during reading or math. Completely destroyed by neuroscientists as "the pinnacle of junk science."
In 2002, Professor Akio Mori's book "The Terror of Game Brain" became a bestseller. Media amplified it massively, but neuroscientists immediately pointed out methodological and interpretive flaws, completely denying it academically.
Key Figures
Scientific Explanation
1) The EEG methodology itself was noise-filled and unreliable. 2) "Alpha wave decrease during gaming" is the natural shift to concentration state (beta wave dominance)—same as during reading, math, or working. 3) "Decreased alpha = dementia" interpretation fundamentally misunderstands EEG basics. Alpha waves increase during relaxation and decrease during concentration—that's normal. 4) No control group was established, making it fundamentally flawed as scientific methodology.
Lesson
"Scientific-sounding explanations" that match social anxieties ("kids these days...") spread explosively through media. But media coverage volume and scientific validity are not correlated.
Catchphrase
Everything wrong with kids today is because of games!
Rivalries
Silicon (Si) is the semiconductor base composing game console CPUs and GPUs. Retorts: "Games running on my processors damage brains? Your broken EEG machine is the real problem."
Entrance
(Waving a broken EEG machine) Look! At this EEG data! Alpha waves in gaming children have plummeted! Same as dementia!
Games destroy brains! Youth violence, declining grades—it's all because of games!
Interactions
Gemuno: "Silicon! Games running on your semiconductor chips are destroying children's brains!"
Silicon: "...First, your EEG data is full of noise. The measurement methodology itself is improper."
Gemuno: "Details don't matter! Alpha waves are decreasing! Same state as dementia!"
Silicon: "Alpha waves increase during relaxation and decrease during concentration. That's normal brain function. Same happens during reading or math. Interpreting concentration as dementia shows zero understanding of EEG basics."
Gemuno: "B-but games are passive...!"
Silicon: "Modern games are continuous active decision-making. TV watching is actually more passive. And your research has no control group. It doesn't qualify as science."
Exit
"Kids these days..." has been lamented since ancient Greece. Dress that anxiety in scientific-sounding garb, and it becomes a bestseller. But it was moral panic, not science.
Media amplification doesn't equal truth. A society that can't distinguish peer-reviewed papers from popular books will repeat the same mistakes.
