Element 94. Named after Pluto, the most feared and most misunderstood actinide. Discovered by Seaborg et al. at Berkeley in 1940-41. Pu-239 was the core of "Fat Man"; Pu-238 is the heart of Voyager and Curiosity rovers. An alpha emitter with a 24,110-year half-life. Critical mass ~10 kg — a palm-sized amount that can level a city, yet the same power sends probes to the edge of the solar system
