Element 102. Named after Alfred Nobel — inventor of dynamite and founder of the Nobel Prize. Destruction and peace, blast and honor — an element embodying contradictions. Its discovery was disputed among Stockholm (1957), Berkeley (1958), and Dubna (1966), with IUPAC finally crediting Dubna in 1997. Uniquely among actinides, its most stable oxidation state is +2, not the usual +3. No-259 half-life: 58 minutes
