Lithium Cobalt Oxide

A representative layered oxide cathode that powered the early spread of lithium-ion batteries. LiCoO₂ moves Li+ in and out between cobalt-oxide layers, exchanging charge through the Co³⁺/Co⁴⁺ redox couple. It packs high energy density into phones and laptops, but overcharge can weaken crystal and thermal stability.
